Centre for Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery
Clinics for consultations at the Centre for Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery are located in Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre and Parkway East Hospital. Our team is dedicated to providing highly specialised comprehensive multi-disciplinary care for adult and paediatric patients with cancerous (malignant) and non-cancerous (benign) soft tissue tumours or bone tumours. We offer state-of-the-art treatment including limb-saving surgery.
At the Centre for Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery, we strongly believe that a multidisciplinary team approach is fundamentally important for management of musculoskeletal tumours. Hence, we work closely together with doctors and other professional healthcare staff from various medical disciplines including radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery and physiotherapy. This is to ensure that expertise from various perspectives can be offered to our patients, while coordinating different (surgical and non-surgical) treatment steps at the same time.
It is our heartfelt wish that every patient understands each step in the management of the disease.
Orthopaedic oncology is a field that is rapidly progressing. Treatment strategies are advancing at multiple levels, including medication, radiation therapy, orthopaedic implant components as well as surgical techniques for tumour removal and reconstruction of bony and soft tissue defects. This paves the way for high-quality patient-centred treatment.
We care for young and old patients with early- and advanced-stage cancers as well as for patients with non-cancerous tumours of the musculoskeletal system. Some of these conditions include:
- Bone tumours
- Osteosarcoma
- Ewing sarcoma
- Giant cell tumour
- Bone metastases
- Pathological fractures
- Cartilage tumours
- Chondrosarcoma
- Enchondroma
- Soft tissue tumours
- Liposarcoma
- Rhabdomyosarcoma
- Synovial sarcoma
- Lipoma
- Infections of the bone and the bone marrow
- Complex reconstructive surgery after tumour removal
- Management of orthopaedic problems in cancer patients
